Created only two years before Calder's death, the etchings in "Santa Claus" are an interesting return to his simple, linear style of illustration (clearly very reminiscent of his figurative wire sculpture) that had appeared many years earlier in books such as "Fables of Aesop" (1931), "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner" (1946), and "A Bestiary" (1955).
