Ralph Mcguire Ralph Mcguire was born in Baltimore, MD in 1917. He attended City College, New York, and then studied with the painter Herman Maril, and at the Phillips Gallery, Washington, DC. He had a one-man show at the Baltimore Museum of Art in 1947, and continued to live and work in Baltimore in the 1950s and 1960s. His painting at this time was principally of local subjects, executed in a flat, simplified style, but in the late-1960s and 1970s he began to experiment with abstraction, and over a period of years produced a number of wood sculptures in a similar vein to the work available here. Mcguire died in 2005. |
